Watermarks
Watermarks
Most German stamps issued between 1905 and 1963 have watermarks. However during second
world war 1939 to 1945 most stamps were issued without watermarks.
There are numerous
types of watermarks. They are described as vm 1, vm 2, vm 3 and so on. Many types
of watermarks can be found inverted or turned 90 degrees, and they are not rare on
some issues.
Other watermarks can be seen on stamps overprinted for use in Germany, but earlier
used in another area. An example is Bayern stamps overprinted Deutsches Reich.

does not include stamps with inverted watermark or other types of variation in the
orientation of the watermark on the stamp. Prices given are for the most common type.
